Here is a job that Brighton double glazing specialists are sure to want - installation of new windows all over Windsor Castle!
According to Whitehall sources, the opening of a third runway at Heathrow Airport will see the company pay some £700 million as part of a £1 billion compensation scheme to help local residents with soundproofing... including Windsor Castle, the Daily Telegraph reports.
The compensation scheme will include cash for acoustic boarding, loft insulation and double glazing, although sorting out the windows at the castle, which attracts some 1.1 million tourists each and every year, could prove difficult, since there are approximately 1,000 rooms and the oldest glazed windows can be dated back to around 1236.
"Residents would be eligible regardless of whether they experience noise under existing flight paths or will be newly affected by noise from a new runway," a spokesman from Heathrow was quoted as saying.
And speaking to the Sunday Times, a Whitehall representative noted that if it is necessary to insulate the castle against noise it could end up costing a fortune, even running into the millions since planes fly quite low over the castle.
Double glazing really is very effective at helping to reduce noise so if you do live somewhere loud and have not opted for such products, now could well be the time to do so. Noise levels can be reduced by up to 35 decibels so if you live in a high traffic area or near an airport, you could do yourself and your family a huge favour if you opt for double glazing this year.
