56 Per Cent Experienced DIY Disasters

When it comes to home improvements, there are sure to be some jobs you can do yourself, but there will be others that are best left to the professionals, so, East Sussex homeowners, do not even think about doing the double glazing yourself!

According to new research from Nationwide, 56 per cent of people around the UK admit to having had a bad experience with DIY and have botched a few of the jobs they decided to undertake themselves, a move that could end up proving quite costly indeed.

Amateur renovators have attempted to fit new bathrooms and kitchens, lay down loft insulation and knock down walls, but unless you have got the necessary skills and experience, you could end up doing quite a lot of damage to your home.

The study found that 19 per cent of people have caused more than 200 pounds worth of damage to their properties, so if you are unsure whether you are actually capable of starting and finishing a home improvement project it probably makes more sense to call in the professionals.

Nationwide advice to anyone looking to do home improvements this weekend is to not rush into it, stop and think about the job in hand, be realistic about your capabilities and make sure you are covered if things do go wrong, Head of general insurance with the lender Martyn Dyson said.

Double glazing installation is definitely one job best left to those who do it for a living, you do not want to break a window or damage your window frames, as this can be pretty expensive to have repaired.
