Double Glazing Saves the Life of a Pensioner!

East Sussex homeowners could well be inspired to call out glazing services after hearing how double glazing managed to save the life of a pensioner after a bullet that was fired during a gang fight from a car park this month hit his window.

According to the Daily Mirror, 91-year-old Daniel Holmes was sat at home in Walthamstow watching England play football against Slovenia when his window was hit by the bullet. When he went to check on it, he saw that it had gone through the first pane but had been stopped by the second.

It is like an advert for double glazing. If it was a single pane who knows what could have happened it could have hit me. There are problems with drug dealers in the area but I feel pretty well protected around here, Mr Holmes was quoted as saying.

You typically hear people touting the benefits of double glazing as heat retention, energy saving and sound proofing, but now you can add bulletproof to the list, so it would seem!

Of course, the likelihood of actually needing to stop a bullet with your double glazing must be quite low, we imagine that Mr Holmes is quite in the minority in this regard – but you can still really benefit from double glazing installation even if you do not live in a warzone.

According to the Energy Saving Trust, for example, you can save about 170 pounds each year on your energy bills if you swap single for double glazing. And since double glazing can last 20 years or so, you will make substantial savings over its lifetime.
